How WillowsEdge Began
WillowsEdge began with an idea to do art workshops back in November 2010, and grew into opening a counseling agency that included all the things I am passionate about; counseling, creative arts and helping those who struggle with learning.
I started my career as an art teacher (certified K-12), teaching elementary through middle school students. I then received my Masters Degree in Professional and School Counseling. I did half of my counseling internship at a middle school and the other half at a counseling agency. I remained at the counseling agency I did my internship with for 10 years, counseling adults and adolescents for with substance abuse, anger management and problem gambling issues. In addition to my work there, I have held several part time positions, including working as a substance abuse counselor at an alternative high school, working in the juvenile court system evaluating teens with substance abuse charges, and working at Oakland Community College as an adjunct faculty member teaching courses in Career Awareness and Techniques for Learning. Through my job at Oakland Community College, I became certified in PowerPath, which screens people for learning challenges and provides the client with helpful strategies to help them work to their full potential.
My dream has always been to take all that I have learned and incorporate it into one business. This is how WillowsEdge came to be. All of my services are interconnected with the purpose of helping clients grow in order to reach their full potential. By becoming a non-profit, I am able to expand my services and address the barriers that prevent people from getting the high quality care that they need.
